Within the limits of admissibility

Milan Hain a.d.

The book consists of five chapters that describe censorship and self-censorship practices in various historical contexts. Milan Hain describes the influence of Hollywood self-censorship mechanisms on Hugo Haas’s exiled work. Milan Cyroň deals with repressive measures at the Czechoslovak Film Festival in Bratislava in 1957-1959. Vladimír Suchánek returns to his own directing activities through personal memories and diary entries and describes the role played by Soviet and Czechoslovak censorship. Eva Chlumská explores the American film Tamed Mountain, which has become the subject of controversy and, in many cases, censorship. Finally, Jana Jedličková focuses on the TV series Spartacus, which was created with the intention of provoking, but at the same time had to be censored on many levels.
