Media education in the family

Zdenek Sloboda

The book aims to make the area of media education clearer and to broaden the discussion of it outside the field of education, as children meet the media first and foremost in the family. Although media education is undeniably a space for interaction between parents, children, and the media themselves, the book focuses primarily on parents – specifically, the tools they can use to realize their children’s media education. In this respect, it is primarily about the possibilities of deliberate action, which most often arise in the form of rules which, for example, prohibit or permit the use of certain media or the consumption of certain content, as well as educationally motivated discussions with children about the media or the joint use of media. The broader framework for these instruments is attitudes towards the media, their supposed influence.
