Body 2.1
Martin Soukup and the collective
The authors of Body 2.1: Pain in the Changes of Time and Cultures set out to explore different forms of pain. Many examples of authors on rich historical, ethnographic and anthropological material show that pain is a malleable cultural phenomenon, since it has been and remains in different cultures accepted, used, indulged or rejected. They familiarize themselves with the diverse forms of punishment and torture, but also show that pain used to be part of initiation rituals, and look at whether pain must necessarily be part of human birth. They also introduce us to supporters of modern primitivism and to the BDSM community, who have a positive attitude to pain. The book loosely follows the previous titles Body (2014) and Body 2.0 (2017).
