Stone sculptures in Podyjí
Petr Yovsky
The publication deals with a topic that has not yet been elaborated in Czech and Austrian art-historical literature. It maps the late Gothic and early Renaissance stone sculptures of the vast Podyjí region in the context of artistic development in nearby centres, especially in Vienna, Krems and Brno. In the category of stone sculptures belongs architectural sculpture (portals, window linings, coats of arms, pulpits, baptistery, pastoforia), microarchitecture (divine anaesthetist, pillories), figural and coat of arms tombstones. All the monuments examined are part of an alphabetical catalogue. On the basis of a stylish analysis of monuments, individual provenances of stone sculptures (sculptures of Viennese, Eggenburg, Kremž, South Moravian stonemasons and imported sculptures) are determined.
