Sources of urban historiography until 1800
Jaroslav Miller a.d.
In the context of Czech historical science, urban history remains the least explored segment of historiography to date. The professional publication thus represents the first attempt to compile and make available an inventory of narrative sources of urban provenance from the pre-modern period in Moravia.
The present inventory captures the spectrum of narration texts that define the genre of urban history to a broader understanding, in particular urban chronicles, private diaries of towns and family chronicles or memoirs of bourgeive families, analist records of individual towns, so-called “urban journals”. praise of cities (Stadtlob), printed calendars in which the inhabitants of the city wrote down ongoing and past events, descriptions of war events, embedded descriptions of important events in the city (e.g. urban storms, or disputes between the council and the municipality) in the city books.
