Poetry, students and teachers

The publication summarizes the results of the research project GAČR entitled Research of poetry reception in pubescent and adolescent readers (2011 – 2013) carried out at the PdF UP Olomouc. Using semantic differential and focal group methods, we observed how students between the ages of 12 and 20 perceived different poems and how capable they were of interpreting them without significant teacher assistance. At the same time, in a longitudinal interventional study, we examined how student relationship with poetry can be influenced by the choice of appropriate teaching methods based on experiential pedagogy, developing creativity and a sensitive approach to individual student interpretations. In total, 1088 respondents participated in the research, assessing selected poetic texts in several partial stages or participating in a longitudinal survey.
