Philip Roth: The Life and Work of a Master of Modern Prose

Michal Sýkora

The first Czech monograph dedicated to the work of one of the most important authors of philip roth’s modern novel (1933–2018) summarizes the author’s artistic career, attempts to sort out his extensive work and capture the various creative stages associated with changes in themes and partly style. The book offers an interpretation of key prose, based on the search for typical Roth themes, both in perspective of the writer’s particular creative stage and the whole work. Michal Sýkora place Roth’s work in the broader context of American literature, devotes himself to his period critical reflection and does not shy away from the possibility of seeking the interpretive key in the writer’s life.
