Foster care through the eyes of adults who grew up in it
Irena Sobotková, Veronika Očenášková
The publication provides a comprehensive view of the often controversial topic of foster care and fills a gap in scientific knowledge. It is based on an extensive and unique research project in our conditions, which mapped the environment and importance of biological and foster families, contacts with biological parents, the process of coping with a non-standard personal history, life satisfaction and coping with adult roles in 50 adults who have grown up in long-term foster care. The research findings are interpreted with respect to practical applications. Emphasis is placed on the identified protective factors in the development of the child in foster care. At the same time, it is pointed out the risks that there are when not respecting the psychological needs of children.
