Despite fundamental developmental changes throughout the system, modern grammatologists still rely intensively on a nearly two millennia-old system that is unable to reflect the specific features of their synchronous form when classifying Chinese characters. This book proposes a new classification model that maps the nature of the contemporary relationship between Chinese graphems and their represented language units. The resulting two-level model includes five groups, which are further broken down into twenty categories. Belonging to a particular group reflects the decompression specification of the character, i.e. the decomposition specification of the character. divisible into lower-level units. The categorization status then indicates whether and how the character graphic is related to the recorded language unit.
