David Drábek

Radio games don’t make scandals. Drábka’s Sphere, however, unleashed literally a media during. It touches on the recent past, to which we are still unable to face up. The drama is a fictional portrait of an aged Czechoslovak athlete Milena, who sacrificed everything to love of sport: the state forced doping on her, deprived her of her privacy, her participation in the races as well as the possibility of starting a family. It’s not that important who or what circumstances may remind. On the one hand, Drábka’s play is not literal, on the other hand, it is necessary to perceive it as a whole. Milena’s confession is formulated as a radio interview with demos, mocking the cursing of some shows, the minders of their creators, the level of callers, and nostalgia for socialism and mischiforming expression. Milena herself is a rather tragicomic victim.
